Local history collection, 1917-1990.

Photographs, postcards, maps, directories, reports, booklets, brochures, programs, fliers, clippings and other material on the history of the Syosset-Woodbury area, with some items on the town of Oyster Bay and Long Island in general. Subjects include the suburban growth and development of the area, industrial parks, zoning issues, civic associations, historic buildings, celebrations of the American Revolution Bicentennial, churches, schools, libraries and the fire department. Items of note include a typed history of Syosset by Sophie Gay Griscom, 1935; a booklet of articles, "Looking Back on Syosset," by Patricia A. Tunison, written 1962; programs, brochures, photos and a history of the Bible Baptist Church, Syosset, 1949-1979; maps and community directories from the 1960's and 70's; a photocopy of the first annual report of the Syosset Fire Department, with list of contributors, 1917; photo of Fire Department members and trucks, 1932; and photos, articles and obituaries about local authors, artists, teachers, business people and other residents.
